- Abstract:
Governments in the West have become increasingly aware—through programme evaluations, statistical trends, published research, and submissions from indigenous people themselves—that their efforts to run indigenous affairs within their borders and solve indigenous problems have not always led to lasting or appropriate solutions. Indeed, they have often perpetuated dependency on the states. Most governments have now recognised the principle of self-determination and have begun to pay greater attention to promoting indigenous peoples’ development.
